Propane heaters are safe if the user has some knowledge and follows the heater directions. The reason propane heaters can be dangerous is due to the natural gas. If this gas is leaking into the air or a confined area then it can cause a burst of fire if a match is lit in the area.Â
One way to make sure your heater is not leaking is to frequently smell in the area. Propane gas has a very distinct smell and is easy to notice.Â
Another important thing to note is the danger associated with propane gas in a confined area. Be careful when using a propane heater in a small air tight room or confined area. If the gas begins to leak it will be confined in the area and is more likely to cause CO2 poisoning if inhaled or cause an explosion if it comes into contact with a match.Â
If you are camping do not leave the propane heater inside the tent, and make sure to turn the heater off when you are not in the area. The heater may catch dry leaves or grass on fire if left unattended.Â
